National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS): Empowering economically weaker students, education is the only tool that changes lives and breaks the cycle of poverty. Recognizing this, the Government of India launched the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) in 2008. This scholarship aims to support meritorious students from economically weaker sections, encouraging them to continue their education at the secondary level.
National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS)
NMMS is a Central Sector Scholarship Scheme implemented by the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The primary objective of the scholarship is to prevent dropout rates in class VIII and motivate students to continue their education at the secondary level. By providing financial assistance, NMMS helps students focus on their studies without worrying about financial constraints.

Eligibility of NMMS
- Parental income should not exceed ₹3,50,000 per annum.
- Minimum 55% marks in Class VII (50% for SC/ST) to appear for the selection test.
- Must be a regular student in a government-aided or local body school.
- Not eligible: Students of Navodaya Vidyalaya (NVS), Kendriya Vidyalaya (KVS), and residential schools.
- Reservation as per State Government norms.
Age Limit of NMMS
- Aims to reduce dropouts at Class VIII
Scholarship Categories of NMMS
- Each State/UT conducts a test for Class VIII students.
Documents Required of NMMS
- The test includes the Mental Ability Test (MAT) & Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
- Minimum 40% aggregate marks in MAT & SAT (32% for SC/ST) are required for selection.
Selection for Renewal Awardees:
- Minimum 60% marks in Class X for scholarship continuation (55% for SC/ST).
- Must be promoted to Class X and XII in the first attempt for continued eligibility.

- Student/Parent/Legal is advised to fill in all the required details carefully and check properly before submission as correction/editing will not be allowed after submission.
- Any wrong/false information may lead to rejection.
- Enter the correct OTR number as provided during registration. The unique identifier helps to verify identity and track application progress.
- Keep your password confidential and avoid sharing it with anyone to protect your account security.
- In case you forget your password, utilize the Forgot Password option to reset it.
- Student/Parent/Legal is also advised to refer to the National Scholarship Portal for regular updates.

- ₹12,000 per annum (increased from ₹6,000 per annum from April 1, 2017).
